Total Film - Max Payne
The mast in this magazine is covered by a layer of the character and the guns, I could use this technique for my magazine to add more effect and still make the mast recognisable. However, it could cause complications or make the magazine look cluttered. The effect looks good on this magazine and maximizes impact for a much more 3D looking image. The gun at the top right of the magazine is also overlaying the mast and could possibly be aimed at the audience, provoking them or enticing them, the guns could connote violence and an action genre.
Empire - Tron
This magazine has the font covering the background, it makes the mast stand out to the audience while still being able to identify with the image. This can sometimes not work as the mast covers an important part of the image which is being displayed. The colour scheme works well with basic primary colours such as blue, red and yellow while still creating a professional image. The character within the image is looking directly at the audience, which could catch their attention.
Satellite TV Guide
Although it is not an actual magazine, the cover shows the similar genre to my product, and I could use some idea from the cover for my magazine cover. Using a colour scheme to make the magazine look professional and add headlines for extra detail to it on the other hand the colour scheme on this cover looks untidy and is a mixture of more than three colours. I could also use images of posters as features of the magazine to catch the audience's attention like the poster for Gangster No 1 on this cover.
